City of Heroes now letting you buy more mission architect slots

City of Heroes

In City of Heroes you can now make missions since Issue 14: Architect added the mission making feature.  You can only have 3 missions published at a time meaning only 3 of your missions will everyone see and be able to play.

Now you can purchase more slots if you really love making missions and publishing them.  Here’s what the official site says, including pricing,

Just can’t stop designing Mission Architect game play masterpieces? Well now you can increase your repertoire! Additional Mission Architect story slots are available for purchase (1, 2 or 5 them for $5.99, $9.99, and $19.99 respectively) up to a maximum of eight slots per game account.

Note: Existing rules applicable to inherent story slots also apply to purchased story slots. Having one of your published stories awarded with Dev’s Choice will free up one of your slots but getting one of your published stories suspended will result in that particular slot being unavailable for the duration of the suspension.

What are you waiting for? Put those creative juices to work! Login to the character select screen and click on the “Enter Store” to buy additional story slots and then share your new design creations with your City of Heroes® brethren!

Warning: gamer rant below, don’t read if you don’t like complaining.

Oftentimes I report on something and that’s it.  I don’t like adding my two cents very often because I don’t want bore you or upset someone.  Honestly, I want you to read my crap for good reasons.  But I can’t NOT say something because I think this is silly.  Three mission slots was a very limiting feature of Issue 14 especially when you enjoy making missions.  I felt hindered by the number of slots and I know a lot people who felt the same way.

Buying additional slots seems like gouging.  Five slots should be the minimum without payment.  Five would let you keep three up for rating and stuff like that with two flex for when you just want to make a fun mission (not a farming mission).  City of Heroes is getting pretty infamous for the amount of crap they want you to buy in addition to a monthly fee.  For example, the booster packs are $10 apiece with some special abilities and frills.

Of course, I know the other side to this argument.  I realize there’s been one expansion that added the villains and everything else added has been free.  I originally thought this was a good design, but not if it means paying for booster packs and the ability to actually use content featured within an Issue.  I know these things are optional meaning people don’t have to get them.

It’s mostly the content in the booster packs that upsets me.  Additional slots for mission making should probably be free before the booster packs should but either way it still feels like gouging.

Sorry about the outburst, it’s over now we can all calm down.
